I hope this is the beginning of a tradition at Redeemer. A pretty good chunk of the ladies in the congregation wore hats today. I think there are a few more who will when we do it again. Have I mentioned recently how much I love these ladies, and the rest of my church family?
The service was of course, lovely. The music was glorious! The sermon was excellent. All in all a wonderful Easter.

Love it! But if I were at Redeemer I would not make it into the picture. I have never been able to wear hats--can never find one that's big enough. My head is literally too big for them. Or maybe it's just a weird shape--it seems to jut out in back a lot more than most people's. Hats just seem to balance precariously on the top of my head--they won't settle down for a long stay. If I wear one I have to do that old walk like I'm balancing a pile of books up there. On litle breeze and it's all over.
More power to all you hat-wearing ladies! "Oh how I want to be in that number, when the hats go marching in . . . " Maybe I'll be able to wear a hat in heaven. :-)
Cheryl--I can't usually, either. I have a HUGE head. :) I try them on in stores and the perch precariously on top of my head. You will have to come over and go hat shopping with me in Cleveland with Barb K. the hat lady. :)
It is amazing what the RIGHT hat can do. I felt like a different person today!
I'm seriously considering taking up the art of hat making. If I do, you'll be one of my first projects. :)
And believe me, if you came to Redeemer and we took pictures, you'd be in them! :)
Honestly, when exactly did hats fall out of fashion? Men look infinitely more respectable, and women, well, it pretty much seals the deal.

I was the **only** lady with a hat at my own congregation. Picture forthcoming.
Evan--It was those blasted '60s. When I was a very little girl, most women still wore hats in the churches I attended. By the time I was seven (1971) only the older ladies still wore hats most of the time, although the Easter bonnet was still common.
I am beginning a campaign to bring back hats. :)

You'll have to get your sister to bring you for a visit. We have hat wearing guys here, too. My oldest son has become very friendly with the salesman in men's furnishings at one of our local stores. :)

The site that I got mine from had a huge price range.
I am serious about taking up hatmaking. It would be such fun to make custom hats for my friends. :) And to rescue the hats from the antique store and make them what they could be!
Jane, I would be more than happy to serve as your hat guinea pig. If you can make a hat to fit MY head . . . well, your reputation for hat-making will spread far and wide in no time and the big fat heads of the world will be lining up at your door, ready to lay down their dollars.
If I make you rich and famous, do I get a cut of the sales? Or at least a free hat? ;-)
I love the hats! Lorna and I always wear head coverings of some kind on the rare occasion we actually attend church but we never wear hats.
I'm so jealous, it feels like forever since we've been to a decent church and were actually able to commune!
I wish I could wiggle my nose and have you here with us on Sundays, Kim. I know how hard this has been for all of you.

I'm the opposite...hats are always very big on me. :-) I never did find one in my search in the stores. Thanks to DoRena for letting me borrow one.
I love our group of ladies at Redeemer! The closeness and mutual respect is not easy to find. I will *definitely* miss Redeemer and its people when John gets his Call and we have to leave. :-(

I don't get it. Since the purpose of millinery is to teach. . . I just haven't seen any headings explicitly called "Ladies in Hats" in our synodical hymnals. I'm hoping you can't come up with a treatise from 17th century Saxony to support your practices.
Seriously, I was wondering if you (or other ladies from the picture) would like to share your hat websites. I found hatsinthebelfry.com to be a really fun and wonderful site. I am a little scared of buying something really nice and not having it fit, though.
