Mom used to run a thread through the toes of everyone's socks and each family member had a different assigned color thread.
I'm too lazy to do that.
When it became the Engineer's (5 yo) job to match and fold the family's socks I started using permanent marker to put an initial under the toes of the socks.
It does look a bit silly to see the letters on the Engineer's feet -- he still puts his socks on upside sown half the time!
