I have been tagged by Not Worthy for the book meme that has been making the rounds. My books are a bit different than those of my friends who have posted this so far.
1. One book that changed your life:
The natural inclination is to say The Bible or something equally pious. To be sure, The Bible has had a profound impact on my life, but strangely enough I think that the book that changed my life was The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This is the book that fired my love of history and sent me to the library--pre-internet--to research where exactly LIW lived and what the weather was like and what late 19th century life was like. So I ended up with a commercially useless history major and a life as a homeschooling mom.
2. One book you've read more than once:
As anyone who reads my blog regularly knows, I read ...And Ladies of the Club once a year. There are many others, of course. But this is the first that comes to mind.
3. One book you'd want on a desert island: The Lutheran Hymnal
4. One book that made you laugh:
Life With Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse
5. One book that made you cry:
Again, there are many.

6. One book that you wish had been written:
Secrets of Millionaire Historians
7. One book that you wish had never been written:
New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures
(the Jehovah's Witness "translation" of the Bible)
8. One book you're currently reading:
Looking for God in Harry Potter
9. One book you've been meaning to read:
There are so many. The Brothers Karamazov. Bethany says it is so good. I hated Crime and Punishment when I read it in high school.

Cujo by Stephen King
I Was a 19 year-old college freshman and couldn't sleep for weeks.
Now it probably wouldn't scare me nearly as much as the book Bethany is going to pick when I tag her did.

Some of these categories are too hard, but here goes:
1. NA--I guess you could say that the Bible shaped my life but really didn't change it since it's always been a part of my life.

3. ? The Bible, Complete works of Shakespeare
4. Any of Phillip Gulley's books.
5. Three come to mind: Little Women ( I cried every time I read it), Bridges of Madison County (sobbed for the last 40 pages!), and Gone with the Wind, which I read as a teenager and finally had to stop because I kept crying at the beach!

10. I tend to avoid scary and/or violent (in both movies and books); I guess the scariest I read would be by Mary Higgins Clark.
